PORTLAND, Ore. – A 59-year-old single-family home in the University Park neighborhood of North Portland will be demolished and replaced with multiple units of housing.
The single-family home, located at 5226 N Harvard St. and built in 1956, is 1,764 square feet in size, and sits on a 10,000-square-foot lot.
On Oct. 23 a death certificate was recorded for the previous owner, and a sale to Robert Kessi for $420,000 took place.
On Jan. 20 the city received an application for demolition of the house. It was subject to the 35-day demolition delay, as the developer plans to replace it with more than one dwelling unit. The house is approaching the end of its delay period.
In place of the house the developer plans to build two new two-story single-family residences, each with an accessory dwelling unit in its basement. While the 1956 house includes a garage, neither of the new residences will have one.
While there are two new residences coming to the property, the developer appears to be partitioning the lot into three separate parcels with a “covenant” being placed on the third lot to “not build for 5 years” on the property.
Owner Robert Kessi of Kessi Construction Inc. is also acting as the applicant and contractor on the demolition and redevelopment.
The demolition delay expires Feb. 23.
