PORTLAND, Ore. – A 99-year-old single-family home in the Kerns neighborhood of Northeast Portland has been deconstructed to make way for a three-story apartment complex.
Located at 823 NE 29th Ave., the 876-square-foot house was built in 1922 and sat on a 5,000-square-foot standard lot.
In August 2020, the house sold for $397,000 to Turk Investments, a business with a Cucamonga, Calif. address.
In October, the city received an demolition application for the house. The permit, which called for deconstruction, was issued in February. The house has since been taken down, except for a chimney.
Prior to the sale last summer, the city received an application to build a three-story, 19-unit apartment complex on the site. That project was in the works since at least the beginning of 2020.
The construction permit remains under review.
