PORTLAND, Ore. – A 122-year-old house in the Buckman neighborhood, once owned by a prolific painter of Portland homes, has been torn down to make way for five attached townhouse units.
Located at 2007 SE Yamhill St., the house was built in 1893 and totaled 1,900 square feet in size. It sat on a 4,150-square-foot lot.
In March, the house sold to Wilde Properties for $369,000. This development company is registered to Mark and Erika Wilde.
But in late July the house sold again for $420,000 to JSM Equities, registered to Steve Melkerson at 4110 SE Hawthorne Blvd. #166, with an alternate address in North Carolina.
Records indicate the Southeast Yamhill Street house was formerly owned by Betty Chilstrom, a Portland artist who painted numerous detailed portraits of houses around the city. Many of her paintings are available in an online gallery. A short documentary on her life and artwork indicates Chilstrom died last year.
Shortly after the sale the developer applied for demolition of the 1893 home. The house was demolished this month.
In October JSM Equities applied for construction of five new townhouse units on the 4,150-square-foot lot. Each will be two stories with no garage.
The R1-zoned property is around the corner from an under construction 56-unit Urban Development Group project, and is two blocks from a 51-unit building also by Urban Development Group.
