- Update: Goose Hollow Home Taken Down
PORTLAND, Ore. – The tear-down of a 115-year-old home in the Goose Hollow neighborhood is underway, with plans in the works to replace it with a six-story multifamily housing development.
The house, built in 1900, was reported on by this publication in July, when a demolition application was received by the city. Goose Hollow Lofts LLC was listed as the owner. The tear-down was subject to the standard 35-day delay, with no interested party filing a demolition delay extension appeal.
Goose Hollow Lofts LLC is registered to VWR Development LLC, which in turn is registered to Vic and Wally Remmers. Vic Remmers is the owner of home redevelopment company Everett Custom Homes. The applicant on the Goose Hollow demolition was listed as Diana Catron of Everett Custom Homes.
Remmers applied for construction of a six-story development in April, and while that application does not list the number of units included in the apartment complex a land use review application from last fall indicates there were 61 residential units under consideration, with no on-site automobile parking.
Remmers also requested an adjustment to the required number of loading spaces. One loading space would normally be mandated, but the design commission approved his request for zero on-site loading spaces to be included.
City staff found that granting this adjustment would “enhance livability of neighboring residential area by reinforcing the integrity of the pedestrian realm for the entire project frontage.” Staff also determined that the 61 residential units would create a “low residential loading demand.”
Instead, Remmers is “pursuing a signage and striping configuration on SW Jefferson St to accommodate loading demand.”
The demolition of the 1900 three-story single-family home has begun.
