PORTLAND, Ore. – This afternoon the United Neighborhoods for Reform will present City Council with a demolition and development resolution, and will respond to the recommendations of the Development Review Advisory Committee (DRAC).
The recommendations by DRAC, which bills itself as a “citizen advisory group,” will be considered by the councilors, who will decide whether to update city code and adopt the amendments, which would include removing exemptions from the demolition delay ordinance and implementation of neighbor notification for demolition and major remodel projects.
While some of the recommendations have been endorsed by historic preservation advocates, many believe the DRAC recommendations do not go far enough, and in some cases would be harmful (DRAC recommends eliminating the possibility of a 120-day demolition delay extension).
The UNR resolution has been backed by at least 31 neighborhood associations.
City Council will begin discussing the proposed amendments no earlier than 3:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
