- Sellwood Home, 112-Years-Old, Razed for Replacement House
PORTLAND, Ore. – A 112-year-old single-family home in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood has been demolished to make way for construction of a new house.
The single-family home, built in 1903, was located at 1144 SE Miller St. It totaled 1,182 square feet and sat on a 3,600-square-foot lot.
In 2013 the home sold to Oregon Homeworks LLC for $255,000. In early December 2014 the city received an application for new construction of a two-story single-family residence with an attached garage.
On Jan. 5 the city issued a demolition permit for the property. The permit states that it was not subject to the 35-day demolition delay because of the planned replacement house.
On Jan. 28 a sale of the property was recorded. The buyer was Travis R. Taylor, registered at an address in Fremont, California, and the sale price was $300,000.
The developer has blocked off parking spaces in front of the rubble pile, but there are no posted permits indicating how long the frontage will be closed, as is generally required.
Several houses on the same block display “Stop the Demolition of Portland Homes,” “Stop Construction of Giant Homes – Save Historic Sellwood” and “Stop the Demolition! No Monster Houses!” yard signs.
