PORTLAND, Ore. – A house built in 1909 in the Sellwood neighborhood will be torn down to make way for a single new house.
The 106-year-old home, located at 1221 SE Malden St., sits on a 3,600-square-foot lot and totals 1,352 square feet in size.
The city and county have not recorded any recent sales transactions, and both list Brian and Annette Campbell as the owners of the property. Real estate database websites also do not list any recent transactions, suggesting the house retains the same ownership and has not as of yet been sold to a developer.
Last October the city received an application for construction of a new house on the property. The permit describes a new two-story single-family residence. That permit is still under review.
On July 2 the city received an application for demolition of the house. It is subject to the 35-day demolition delay which, while city records do not indicate the exact day, suggests August 6 could be the final day of delay.
The applicant on the demolition and new construction is Geno Salimena of Gusto Design LLC, while the listed contractor is Right Angle Construction Inc.
The house is located within an alternative design density zone, which the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability states exists “to focus development on vacant sites, preserve existing housing and encourage new development that is compatible with and supportive of the positive qualities of residential neighborhoods.”
