- 1898 Northwest Homes Prepare for Demolition, Bypass Delay
- Update: 1898 Northwest Homes Torn Down
PORTLAND, Ore. – More than a century after their construction in the Northwest district, two houses have been demolished to make way for three units of attached housing.
The houses were located at 2652 and 2658 NW Thurman St. Built in 1898 on brick foundations, they were located on a single 5,000-square-foot lot.
When reported on by the Portland Chronicle in September, the city and county listed the most recently recorded sale taking place in 2002 for $290,000, when the houses sold to Priscilla Goodwin and Stephen Dixon. In 2005 the property transferred into ownership by DGNW LLC, which is registered to Goodwin and Dixon.
Since that time, however, public records have been updated to list an Aug. 27 sale of the property for $790,000 to Portland Development Group Investments LLC, registered to Mike Hubbell.
The day after the sale went through (although long before it was recorded by the city and county) the Bureau of Development Services received applications for demolition of both houses. The permit intakes indicated that because the comprehensive plan designation for the property is commercial, the demolitions would not be subject to the 35-day demolition delay standard for residential demolitions.
The houses have since been razed.
While there are no construction applications yet recorded, an early assistance application received Oct. 23 indicates the developer is planning to build three attached townhouses on the site of the two demolished houses. Each townhouse will be three stories tall, the intake indicates.
